CBD Benefits for Hair, Skin, and Nails

A lineup of assorted Glenna's CBD serum bottles

July is National CBD month, and we are dedicated to helping you understand the benefits of CBD oil for your health (find information here) and your skincare routine (find it here). Today's post is all about CBD's benefits for your hair, skin, and nails. As with all CBD products, quality matters. Choose products that have experienced third-party testing in an independent lab, read the label, and buy from reputable brands. Salon Patrice sells Glenna's CBD oils, creams, and other products, a woman-owned company that uses pure, high-quality CBD in her products.

But first, what is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol oil, is derived from the cannabis plant and has become a popular natural remedy for many different ailments without the mind-altering effects of marijuana. CBD is made by extracting it from the cannabis plant and diluting it with a carrier oil, such as hemp seed oil or coconut oil. It's then turned into serums, creams, gummies, oils, and more to treat a whole host of different conditions.

Benefits of CBD in haircare:

  • Scalp health: CBD is a natural adaptogen that helps balance sebum production, which makes it beneficial for both dry and oily scalps. It's also anti-inflammatory, so it may also soothe conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

  • Hydration and frizz: CBD is rich in amino acids and vitamins (like vitamin E), and CBD-infused hair oils penetrate deep into the strands to hydrate, nourish, and tame frizz.

  • Prevent breakage: CBD's fatty acids and natural proteins work to strengthen the hair shaft and help reduce split ends, brittleness, and breakage

What products to look for: For scalp health, a CBD-infused shampoo and conditioner may be a good bet, while a CBD-infused serum or oil would be great to smooth over those mids and ends to prevent breakage and reduce frizz. There are CBD-infused hair masks if you need a deep conditioning treatment, and also volumizing and curl treatments if you'd like to add extra frizz protection and get the benefits of CBD in your everyday routine. If you have a high-quality CBD oil that you've purchased, you can make your own hair oil by adding a few drops to a carrier oil, such as jojoba or argan oil.

Benefits of CBD in skincare and body care:

  • Anti-inflammatory: CBD helps calm redness, irritation, and inflammation, making it good for conditions like rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis.

  • Anti-aging: CBD's antioxidants help the body fight off free radicals from UV exposure and pollution, helping to minimize wrinkles, oxidative stress, and other signs of aging.

  • Sebum regulation: Just like with the scalp, CBD helps to regulate the skin's sebum, or oil, production, making it ideal for dry and oily skin alike.

  • Targeted pain relief: For the body, CBD's anti-inflammatory properties can also help with pain relief and sore muscles.

What products to look for: Facial cleansers, toners, serums, facial lotions, body moisturizers, and body washes are all great options, depending on your need. Facial masks with CBD added can help calm redness and provide anti-aging properties. For targeted pain relief, try a topical cream infused with arnica. Adding a few drops of a high-quality CBD oil to an unscented lotion or carrier oil is a quick way to incorporate CBD into your routine.

Benefits of CBD in nailcare:

  • Deeply hydrating: Rich in fatty acids, CBD nourishes dry skin and helps replenish the moisture barrier around the nail beds. The deep moisture helps heal brittle, dry nails, too.

  • Pain and inflammation: Got a hangnail? Rubbing a little CBD oil around the area can help reduce the redness and inflammation around hangnails, ingrown nails. and cuticles.

  • Antimicrobial: Research suggests that CBD oil has properties to fight fungal and yeast infections that target nails.

  • Relaxation: A CBD soak during a pedicure helps to soothe the skin and calm the nervous system. (Learn more about Salon Patrice's CBD Milk Bath Pedicure here.)

What products to look for: A CBD-infused cuticle oil or cream is a great way to add CBD's extra moisture and antioxidant benefits to your nailcare routine, as are hand lotions. For fungal treatments, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about treatment options best for your condition.
