Winter-to-Spring Skincare Tips

A collection of skincare jars and bottles

Now that the weather is warming up and we're getting more sunshine each day, it's time to start thinking about transitioning your winter skincare to spring. During fall and winter, we focus on getting skin the extra hydration it needs. During the spring and summer, there is more moisture in the air, so your skin won't dry out as quickly. However, some skin conditions don't fare as well in the spring and summer, such as excess oil, hyperpigmentation, and sun sensitivity.

Here's what you should do to refresh that skincare routine:

  1. Aim for lightweight hydration: Is your moisturizer starting to feel too heavy on your skin? Then it's time to switch that thicker moisturizer for a thinner formula! Heavy formulas can clog pores during the warmer months, so look for a gel-based moisturizer if you have oily skin, or simply opt for lightweight formulas with hyaluronic acid and other skin-loving ingredients.

  2. Exfoliate: It's good to gently exfoliate all year round to remove dead skin cells and get your skin radiant again. Winter's harsh climate can leave behind dry, flaky skin, so a gentle scrub or chemical exfoliator will remove dead skin cells, improve your skin's texture, and help the rest of your skincare work better. Aim to exfoliate 2-3 times per week.

  3. Adjust your cleanser: If you switched up your cleanser to a heavier, milky variety, you may find it's too heavy during the spring and summer months. A foaming or gel cleanser will help manage oil and keep your pores from clogging.

  4. Wear your sunscreen: This, too, is important all year long, but it's especially vital during the warmer weather. There is more sunshine since days are longer, and we naturally want to be outside more. Make sure to pop on your sunscreen every day and reapply when needed.

  5. Antioxidants can help: Brightening antioxidants like Vitamin C are great tools to help transition your skincare from winter to spring. Find a list of antioxidants and how they can help your skin here.

  6. Book a facial: What better way to get your skin ready for spring than to get a facial? Not only will it help you relax, but you'll get a customized, deeply exfoliating and hydrating treatment that will leave your skin glowing and gorgeous.
